Happy 9th of Augie

for a number of years now, I’ve wondered what impression my non Singaporean friends have of Singapore. often when I think about Singapore I’ve imagined that I was viewing it through their eyes. really. the further from Singapore they hail, the lesser they tend to know about this strange country? right smack in the middle of south east asia, we sometimes come to be named along with south africa, canada, australia, nz, america and the uk as English speaking countries. and yet when you take a closer look you see nothing but a sea of asian faces unlike the aforementioned countries which have predominantly white populations. strange isn’t it. even stranger, the variety of English spoken sounds somewhat British and yet not quite- with the addition of Singlish and whatnot. furthermore, the country might have designated English as its official language, but… its national language is malay?

how would you describe and explain your country to your foreign friends? a land with a history so young and yet still so rich. the country has evolved so much within so little time, it could be almost impossible to imagine.

I have thus come to the conclusion that the best and only true way to understand Singapore and its past may be to visit this fascinating, albeit small country and experience the culture for oneself. and perhaps also the best way to come to understand me better :)

ピーチちゃん と ピーちゃん どちらがいい？

I named my new wordpress blog peachan. I was thinking ‘peach-chan’ but peachchan would appear weird. Nvm, I love peas too.

I currently have more blogs than I can handle. Hence, I don’t update regularly, ergo, zero readership. ANyhow I felt a lot of my blogs were somewhat superficial- blogging in my terrible JAP?!? So I’ve started this little wordpress mathingabopper just to rant about everyday stuff, ya know.  I’ll still try to continue blogging in Jap so that I can improve.

Another reason why I’m writing at this very moment is because I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by the sudden onslaught of work… To think last week during Easter break there was NOTHING at all to do… nothing I could do but read the textbooks in an attempt to be hardworking and keep ahead of task.

That’s going to be a thing of the past starting now… tons of assignments due in just 3 weeks. Thank God I decided to spend Sunday afternoon lying on the (pathetic) couch in the livingroom reading my novel and basking in the last bits of autumn sunlight warmth.

(Strangely, the song I’m listening to now just sang “there’s nothing to do but work, work work…” and that part just keeps echoing in my brain now…)
